How Crummey Notices Work

Preserving Gift Tax Exclusions

Crummey notices are a core requirement in many ILITs. They provide beneficiaries with a temporary right to withdraw contributions, allowing gifts to qualify for the annual gift tax exclusion.

Focused Trust Administration

  • Contribution is made to the ILIT

  • Trustee sends written notice to beneficiaries

  • Beneficiaries have a limited withdrawal window (typically 30 days)

  • If no withdrawal occurs, funds remain in trust for premium payments

Why Administration Matters

The IRS expects withdrawal rights to be real, timely, and documented. Missed notices or poor records can jeopardize intended tax benefits. FCG manages this process carefully and consistently.
